Eric Thomas (motivational speaker)
Dr. Eric D. Thomas is an American motivational speaker, author and minister. Speeches by Thomas have been widely viewed and are popular on YouTube.
==Early life==
Thomas was born in Blainville, Quebec, and grew up in Detroit, Michigan. Thomas was raised by his mother, a single parent, and did not have a relationship with his father during his childhood or adolescence.〔 At the age of sixteen after an argument with his mother and stepfather, Thomas dropped out of high school and lived homeless on the streets of Detroit.〔(【引用サイトリンク】url=http://www.fearlessmotivation.com/2015/05/16/eric-thomas-motivational-speaker/ )〕 Thomas was homeless for two years.〔 Thomas would sleep in abandoned cars and find food in garbage cans.
While he was homeless, he met a preacher who inspired him to go back to school and eventually change lives.〔 Thomas recalled that time in his life: “He really just spoke life into me at a time when I was lost. He told me I had an untapped gift that if tapped into, would save lives!”〔 Thomas also credits a job at a Olive Garden on the westside of Detroit as a break for his career.〔 Thomas would work until 5am and only sleep for a few hours.〔 Around this time, Thomas met his wife, De-De Mosley, at the Detroit Center Seventh Day Adventist Church.〔 They then moved Huntsville, Alabama, attended Oakwood University, and they were married as college students.〔
Thomas' parents did not go to college and he was very unfamiliar with the college world. Thomas spent twelve years working toward an undergraduate degree at Oakwood and graduated in 2001.〔 A debate class at Oakwood made Thomas realize what he should do with his life.〔 While in Huntsville, Thomas preached and set up a program, Break The Cycle I Dare You, (BTC), to help underprivileged kids.〔
